Quantum Sensing for Position, Navigation, and Timing
Dr. Keeper Sharkey contributes to a new report reviewing the challenges of scaling and commercializing quantum sensors and exploring potential use cases in detail. Proud to be speaking with the #girls of #QuantumQuest funded by #NSF
During Quantum Quest hosted by Qubit by Qubit, participants will explore the fascinating world of quantum computing with unplugged, hands-on activities and exercises on-site at Girl Scouts’ facilities. These topics will cover everything from the foundational concepts that make-up the quantum world–entanglement and qubits–to teaching girls how to code on real quantum computers. Girls will learn from outstanding researchers from the University of Arizona and hear from STEM role models across the Tucson area, including SARSEF staff who support student/STEM mentor relationships year round.
Quantum computing is a rapidly developing field, with potential impacts in nearly every industry: from finance to medical research to chemistry. However, the majority of students will not hear about this field until graduate school. This camp provides a fun and inviting entryway to one of the most revolutionary fields today.

Named one of The Cyber Express 40 Under 40 Women Cyber Leaders, Dr. Keeper L. Sharkey is the founder and CEO of ODE, L3C, a social enterprise dedicated to advancing quantum science, technology, and research. She is recognized as a leading authority in the field, serving as the Chair of Quantum Applied Chemistry at Quantum Security Alliance and Vice-Chair of Cyber Security in Quantum Computing and Quantum’s Effect on Current Architectures with IEEE.
Dr. Sharkey is also a civilian member of the US Quantum Industry Coalition and serves as the point of contact for ODE’s co-founding membership of the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C). She earned her PhD in Chemistry and her BS in Mathematics and Chemistry from the University of Arizona, where she distinguished herself with honors such as the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship and participation in the NSF I-Corps program.
Dr. Sharkey’s expertise is underscored by her prolific research contributions, including over 30 publications in esteemed peer-reviewed journals. She has received widespread acclaim for her work on non-Born-Oppenheimer quantum mechanical finite-nuclear mass variational algorithms, with over 400 citations to her name. Her commitment to advancing the field is further demonstrated through her active participation in events such as Quantum Business Europe and the Department of the Air Force Information Technology conference (DAFITC), where she has shared insights on quantum technology and cybersecurity.
